End of tour show at London’s Bowery

Driving out of Tenesee following signs to Chatanooga. We’ve just passed a sign telling us to change our clocks an hour. My phone has been trying to predict this for the last half an hour as we weaved down the valley. The sun is shining, the van’s engine is softly growling in a way that just feels and speaks of America. It’s easy to understand how people here sometimes seem to forget there are other places in the world. The feeling rubs off. Nashville is a place of great music and greater people. I have seen some of the best playing anywhere and have learnt so much from both the players and the people. The lights go out late and music is everywhere.

Last night we played the melting point in Athens, Georgia. It’s a beautiful place. The crisp air smelt amazing and to complete the picture the low horn from trains on the rail road occasionally echoed down the streets. I felt like we were in a Jack Daniels advert. We were supporting Col Bruce Hampton. A legendary funk jam band. We were just finishing sound check when his piano player came to introduce himself. The list of names Mr Ike Stubblefield has played with reads like a who’s who the greatest artists in the world. Luckily we found this out after he asked to join in and play with us for an encore.

Travelled back to Cornwall for a few days this week before heading out to Europe for the tour. The bus needed fixing and collecting. It’s strange and beautiful to be back out of London and down this way. The pace and outlook on life is so fundamentally different. I thought I’d miss it but I think musically being in more vibrant places now definitely wakes more up in me.
The wind has been howling these last two days so we’ve been getting some kite surfing in when there’s time. I’ve been getting a proper spanking. New kites no de-power…not enough for me.
Hopefully the bus will be all good and ready for the first leg back to London tomorrow and then we’ll be heading out to Belgium on Monday. Can’t wait x
